The Software

JRC 3D Reconstructor is a professional software package to process 3D data from laser scanner, 2D images and topographical data. Originally designed form The European Commission Joint Research Centre of Ispra (EU-JRC) for industrial plants applications, it is now mainly used and appreciate in architecture fields. Other applications also in civil engineering and territorial sectors.
Available in English - Italian - Chinese

Modularisation:

CORE (basic package which is possible to add the other modules)
The fundamental tool for importing and navigation of large point clouds from all laser scanners, surfaces and topographical measures. It provides all the instruments for model analysis, linear, surfaces and volumes calculations. Ortho-photos can be extracted with the innovative virtual scan tool and direct link to AutoCAD for final drawing. Flight through video can easily be created.

LOCK
The point clouds can be aligned with automatic registration refinement (no target) or geo-referenced. All the imported objects can be positioned accurately in the proper reference systems by means of topographical reference.

SURFACE
Module for mesh creation starting from a point cloud. Mesh are created with an intelligent geometry simplifications and can be filtered to obtained simplified models. A special tool simplifies the cloud of points for CAD export. The Inspection tool allows automatic change detection between models.

PHOTO
Any external image from un-calibrated camera can be used for texture mapping and photorealistic model creation. Camera calibration and orientation can be calculated according to the acquired points. Images from cameras mounted on laser scanner can be imported and used at full resolution.

CONTROL (For FARO Laser Scanner)
New module created to directly control (from your own PC) the FARO Laser Scanner and the camera fixed on the top of the laser.
Supported cameras: Nikon D70 | D80 | D200 | D300 | Normal lens or Fisheye

Application fields

Architecture - Cultural Heritage - Archaeology
For historical buildings representation, archaeological sites surveying and city modelling applications.
Specific tools for automatic registration without targets, meshing and texture mapping from any digital camera are used to generate photo-realistic 3D models. Surveying tools allow model measurements, cross sections extraction, ortho-photos creation. Flight-through video can be created. Exporting function and close connection to AutoCAD supports the final drawing.

Civil Engineering
To analyze complex constructions like dams, bridges, infrastructures, tunnels.
Texture Mapping eventually helps in crack detection and detailed photo-interpretation analyses on concrete structures. A direct link to AutoCAD establishes a useful connection for drawing in 2D/3D across the derived wire-frames.

Land Survey - Geology
To integrate short range laser scanner with airborne data and traditional topographical measurements, inside several land surveying applications.
Filtering tools allow to remove noise features and provide geometry information (i.e. the model inclination used by geologists for geo-mechanical analyses). Geo-referencing, Meshing and Virtual Scan tools are used for digital terrain models generation, volume calculation and isolines extraction for pits mines, terrain surfaces or landslides. The Inspection tool is used for change detection analysis in terrain models or glacier monitoring. 2D images calibration and projection over surface models help technical experts to perform detailed analysis of rock discontinuities and to investigate the mechanical behaviour.

Nuclear and Industrial Surveillance
For 3D surveillance and feature identification purposes, 3D site modeling and plant design verification.
Automatic Registration, Meshing and Inspection tools are designed to process laser scans and to compare them between delayed acquisitions. Interference analysis inside CAD projects are also possible.
